Minister: Half of Ukraine's energy infrastructure damaged

From October 10, 2022 to March 9, 2023, 271 attacks on critical infrastructure facilities were recorded in Ukraine; half of the entire energy system of Ukraine, including the generation and transmission system, was damaged, Ukrainian Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko said, Report informs.

"Unfortunately, there are facilities that have been completely destroyed and cannot be restored," the minister said.

He added that now the ministry is conducting the largest repair campaign in the history of the country. "Because the scale of destruction is huge, and we have the task of recovering as much as possible by the next heating season," the minister explained.

The World Bank estimated the losses of Ukraine's energy industry at $11 billion. At the same time, Herman Galushchenko pointed out that this figure is "increasing daily." "It is important to restore generating facilities and substations fast. Restoration should take place using modern technologies to ensure reliable generation of electricity, taking into account military risks and protecting infrastructure," he summed up.

Russia has been attacking Ukrainian critical infrastructure facilities since October 10, 2022. As a result, Ukraine faced power outages. The damage caused to the electric power industry is about $6.5 billion, and nuclear power plants - about $770 million.
