Kazakh Defense Ministry refutes info on opening of NATO center in Almaty

The Kazakh Defense Ministry has refuted information about the opening of a NATO center in Almaty, Report informs referring to the ministry.

Earlier, messages appeared on social networks in Kazakhstan that a NATO center had allegedly opened in the country.

“On October 23, 2023, the official opening of the new conference hall of the peacekeeping operations center of the Defense Ministry of Kazakhstan took place in Almaty with the participation of US Ambassador to Kazakhstan Daniel Rosenblum. The center has been operating since 2006 as an educational institution designed to develop the peacekeeping component of the Kazakh Armed Forces,” reads the statement.

The center is a republican state institution of additional education of the Ministry of Defense of Kazakhstan, the main goal of which is “language training and preparation of military, police and civilian personnel to participate in peacekeeping operations according to UN standards, training in the basics of international humanitarian law, the provisions of the regulatory framework for peacekeeping activities.”

The center is a member of the International Association of Peacekeeping Training Centers (IAPTC).
