Pilot production of green hydrogen in Uzbekistan’s Tashkent region, in cooperation with Saudi company ACWA Power, may begin as early as June this year, Uzbekistan’s Minister of Energy, Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov, said during Uzbekistan Energy Week (UEW-2025), which opened on May 13 at the CAEx International Exhibition Center in Tashkent.
"We hope that during the Tashkent International Investment Forum [scheduled for early June], we will be able to showcase the results and make an official announcement," the minister stated.
He noted that only five countries in the world currently produce green hydrogen. With this project, Uzbekistan is expanding the "hydrogen club" to six nations that have mastered one of the cleanest fuel technologies.
In November 2023, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev launched the construction of the pilot green hydrogen production facility in Tashkent region in partnership with ACWA Power. The project, with a total cost of $88 million, will begin with the launch of production capacity for 3,000 tons of green hydrogen in 2025.
