Beijing says China does not seek to change United States, expects the same from US

Chinese authorities will not try to change the US political course at the upcoming meeting between President Xi Jinping and American President Joe Biden in San Francisco, but hope that Washington will not strive for a new Cold War and conflict with the PRC, Beijing's Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning told a regular briefing, Report informs via foreign media.

Mao urged the US on Monday to "earnestly respect China's reasonable concerns and legitimate development rights, rather than only emphasizing its own concerns while harming China's interests."

"China does not seek to change the United States, and the United States should also not seek to shape or change China," she added.

"China is not afraid of competition, but we oppose defining the China-US relationship in terms of competition," Mao Ning said.
