Use of alternative water sources expanding in Azerbaijan

Fresh water resources in Azerbaijan are depleting, so the use of alternative water sources is expanding, Advisor to Chairman of the State Water Resources Agency Asad Shirinov told journalists during the Baku Water Week, Report informs.
“We intend to build a seawater desalination plant on the Absheron Peninsula, most likely in Sumgait, to replenish fresh water supplies in Baku,” Shirinov noted.
He added that taking into account the projected annual increase in the need for drinking water, the plant’s production capacity will be 100 million cubic meters per year.
