The EU must be ready to step up support for long-term sustainable peace and security between Azerbaijan and Armenia, Executive Director of the Pakistan Research Center for a Community with Shared Future Khalid Taimur Akram told Report.
He was commenting on the meeting of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev with Head of the EU Council Charles Michel and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in Brussels.
He noted that since the liberation of its territories Azerbaijan has always been a supporter and initiator of the normalization of relations with Armenia, despite the aggressive policy of Armenia for decades.
“The president of Azerbaijan was the one who proposed signing a peace agreement to ensure the international rule of law in the post-conflict stage. The Azerbaijani side continues to support peace and reconstruction efforts in the liberated areas. Azerbaijan’s positive role is also supported by the international community,” he said, adding that Armenia, in turn, always violated the agreements.
“Armenia is demonstrating a destructive approach in order to undermine the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan and has been pursuing a hostile policy towards Azerbaijan for three decades,” he said.
