France's credibility in Azerbaijan as even a potential mediator in the process of normalizing relations with Armenia today is zero, Ambassador Elchin Amirbayov, representative of the President of Azerbaijan for special assignments, said in an interview with the French radio station Radiofrance, according to Report.
"The rabid support for Armenia on the part of the current political leadership of France has led to a situation where no one in Azerbaijan is ready to even theoretically consider Paris as a party capable of making at least some useful contribution to promoting the normalization of relations between Baku and Yerevan. Quite the contrary," he said.
Amirbayov emphasized that the latest evidence of Paris’ commitment to the selfless defense of Armenian interests was the recently announced decision by French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna to bring military-technical cooperation with Yerevan to a qualitatively new level, including the start of supplies of weapons and military equipment to its de facto ally.
"Such a reckless step by France not only negates its unbridled ambitions as a 'peacemaker', but also brings the region to a new dangerous level of military confrontation, inciting Armenia to new deadly provocations and new aggression against Azerbaijan," the presidential representative concluded.
