The Dow Jones Industrial Average was higher by 475.57 points (1.57%) to settle at 30,687.48. The S&P 500 index gained 52.45 points (1.39%), reaching 3,826.31. The Nasdaq electronic exchange index found itself up 209.38 points (1.56%) to 13,612.78.
WTI crude oil also rose in price. In March, the cost of energy supplies rose by $1.29 (2.41%), to $54.83.
