Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto announced a major milestone in the expansion of the Paks nuclear power plant. Earthworks have begun for the future sixth power unit, which was the first step in preparation for construction, he noted.

According to him, despite a number of existing problems, the ultimate goal of the project - to increase the nuclear potential of Hungary from 2,000 to 4,400 megawatts by 2030 - remains realistic.

At present, the nuclear power plant generates almost half of the electricity the country needs.
