US President Donald Trump said the United States will lift sanctions imposed on Türkiye under the Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA), Report informs.
Speaking during a bilateral meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Ankara, Trump made the remarks while discussing the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
He said the issue had also been discussed with NATO chief and the US secretary of state, adding that the time had come to remove the sanctions on Türkiye.
"We do not want to impose sanctions on our friends. It's very simple. We do not want our friends to face embargoes and sanctions," Trump said.
