Volume of Turkey's underground gas storage facilities to reach 10B cbm by 2023

Turkey continues to increase the capacity of underground gas storage facilities, Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Fatih Donmez said, Report informs referring to Anadolu Agency.

Once the necessary work is completed, the total volume of Tuz Golu and Silivri storage facilities will reach 10 billion cubic meters, the minister said.

Donmez visited Turkey’s first underground gas storage facility, Silivri, which is owned by BOTAS.

Donmez stressed that underground gas storage facilities are strategically important facilities, playing a key role in the reliability of natural gas supplies.

He noted that the gas storage facilities make it possible to meet the high demand for natural gas in the winter season.

The minister added that work to increase the capacity of natural gas storage facilities began about two years ago.

“We will increase the volume of the Silivri storage from 2.8 billion cubic meters to 4.6 billion cubic meters. Work continues at the Tuz Golu storage. At the moment, the volume of this storage is 1.2 billion cubic meters, and by 2023 it will reach 5.4 billion cubic meters. The total capacity of the two storage facilities will reach 10 billion cubic meters, here we will store about 20 percent of the gas consumed in the country,” Donmez said.
