Türkiye has established itself as a key country for ensuring peace in the region. Ankara should make the most of the opportunities in the current situation, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on May 8 in Antalya, Report informs referring to Anadolu Agency.
He drew attention to the modern challenges, reminding that the idea of creating platforms such as the Council of Europe, the EU and the UN was based on the desire to prevent conflicts, including in Europe.
“Today we see how the very foundations of the world order are being undermined; the system formed after the end of World War II is being destroyed; contradictions and conflicts are deepening, about 60% of which are in the region where Türkiye is located. Despite the negative challenges, Türkiye remains an “island of stability,” Cavusoglu noted.
He added that in such a difficult situation in the world, Ankara is making active mediation efforts, which made it possible to reach an agreement on a “grain deal,” and thereby stabilize the situation in the global food market.
Cavusoglu noted that against the backdrop of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, the importance of the Middle Corridor, an important trade and transport artery between West and East, has increased.
“The Middle Corridor is vital for trade between Asia and Europe. The North-South transport corridor can be added here,” the Turkish minister said.
