Kyrgyzstan considers capital city relocation to reduce traffic congestion

Kyrgyz deputy Bakytbek Maripov suggested relocating the country’s capital city to reduce traffic jams in Bishkek, Report informs via Kazinform.

According to Maripov, “Even if the capital had a two-headed mayor, the problem of smog and traffic congestion would not be solved.”

“I suggest moving our capital city to a new location. This issue needs to be reviewed. A new city Asman is being built on Lake Issyk-Kul shores, with up to $10 billion of investments attracted. $550 million will be required to move the railways outside the capital, and more than $1 billion is needed to build a bypass ring road. Traffic jams will be eliminated, if the capital city is relocated and the Cabinet of Ministers is moved outside the city,” the deputy said addressing a meeting of the Zhogorku Kenesh.
