Representatives of think tanks from a number of countries visiting Azerbaijan to attend the Shusha conference viewed demining work in the liberated territories, Report informs.
Leading experts from the United States, Great Britain, Sweden, Italy, France, Romania, Turkiye, Georgia, and other countries got acquainted with the demining of the road between Ahmadbayli village and Shusha in the Fuzuli district.
A representative of the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA), Gabil Babayev, briefed the guests on the progress of work in the area.
According to him, the area is heavily polluted with mines. During the Armenian occupation, enemy trenches were located nearby, and mines were buried around the trenches. During clearing the first km of the area, the ANAMA representative found and cleared nine mine zones by sappers. Currently, the second kilometer of the area is being cleaned. Five minefields were found here.
"The number of mines found indicates that they were buried irregularly. Although Armenia provides a mine map of the area, many errors make these maps useless," Babayev stressed.
According to the ANAMA representative, demining is carried out manually, as well as specially trained dogs.
The experts then had the opportunity to get acquainted with samples of mines and ammunition found in the area, as well as to observe the process of their demining.
