The newly appointed Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI) to Azerbaijan will arrive in Azerbaijan on August 21.

Iran has an embassy in Baku and a consulate-general in Nakhchivan City, while Azerbaijan has an embassy in Tehran and a consulate-general in Tabriz. Official diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Iran were established after the collapse of the Soviet Union. To a large extent, Iran and Azerbaijan share the same history, religion, ethnicity, and culture.

The ceremony brought together Iranian Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister for Legal and Consular Issues Hasan Gashgavi, Ambassador of Iran to Azerbaijan Mammadbagir Bahrami, and other officials.
