Umayra Taghiyeva: Azerbaijan's share in global emissions is only 0.15%

Azerbaijan has submitted information about its new commitments to the secretariat of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, despite the significantly low level of greenhouse gas emissions in the country, national coordinator of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan Umayra Taghiyeva told reporters.

According to Report, Taghiyeva noted that Azerbaijan's share in global emissions is only 0.15%: "Nevertheless, to support international efforts, we have submitted information about our new obligations to the secretariat of the convention."

The deputy minister recalled that Azerbaijan undertook to reduce gas emissions by another 40% by 2050.

"At the same time, the territories liberated from occupation have been declared a zone of carbon neutrality. In world practice, great importance is given to landscaping areas. Azerbaijan is the region's leader in landscaping. This year alone, 2 million trees were planted, which will play a role in reducing carbon emissions in the future. By the end of the year, this figure will be increased to 3 million," Taghiyeva said.

She added that Azerbaijan is one of the countries that are sensitive to climate change.
