Lithuania detects first case of infection with 'British' variant of COVID

Lithuania has recorded the first case of infection with the 'British' strain of coronavirus, the representative of the Lithuanian Ministry of Health, virologist Ingrida Olendraite told reporters, Report informs.

"The test, which revealed the 'British' variant of the infection, was taken in early January, so given the aggressiveness of this type, it can be assumed that the number of carriers of this strain of infection isn't limited to one person," said the virologist.

This is all the more likely that the person infected with the British mutation of the virus didn't leave Lithuania.

"First of all, it is necessary to establish where a person could have been infected," Olendraite said.

From January 1, Lithuania resumed air traffic with the UK, suspended on December 21 due to the spread of a new coronavirus strain in the British Isles.
