Germany wants to create a “prison” for quarantine violators

The German federal state of Saxony will create an institution for the "forced placement" of those repeatedly caught for violating the quarantine for the coronavirus, Bild reported.

A primary reception center built-in 2017 in Dresden is to be converted for this purpose. As the tabloid wrote, in the spring of 2020, Saxon Health Minister Petra Köpping proposed sending quarantine violators to psychiatric hospitals. These plans were abandoned, as were the ideas of placing them in hotels or hospitals.

The authorities do not unveil the conditions and cost of accommodation in the new facility. However, the area is fenced, and the police will be in charge of surveillance.

The Ministry of Social Protection confirmed to the publication plans to re-equip the center. Moreover, "forced placement" can threaten people who have repeatedly committed offenses.
