FBI: US sees 'sharp uptick in threats' since Hamas attack

FBI Director Christopher Wray told a gathering of US police chiefs that the FBI has seen a "sharp uptick in threats" since the Hamas attacks on Israel, according to New York Times reporter Glenn Thrush, Report informs via HaAretz.

Speaking at a conference in San Diego, Wray reportedly added that he urged locals to be vigilant and share intel on "lone wolf actors" inspired by Hamas and others.

“We cannot and do not discount the possibility that Hamas or other foreign terrorist organizations could exploit the conflict to call on their supporters to conduct attacks here on our own soil,” Wray told US Jewish leaders on Thursday.

Wray's comments come one day after National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby said the US does not have any specific intelligence indicating a threat within the United States stemming from the Hamas attacks.

Kirby noted, however, the US is helping safeguard Jewish and Muslim communities as well as helping protect Israeli diplomatic facilities in Washington as well as the eight US cities where Israeli consulates are located: Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York and San Francisco.
