Today marks anniversary of Balligaya massacre committed by Armenians

Thirty-one years have passed since the Balligaya massacre, committed by Armenian terrorist-bandit groups against peaceful Azerbaijanis, Report informs.

The tragedy that went down in history as the Balligaya massacre happened on August 28, 1992, around 5 a.m. in Balligaya village of Azerbaijan’s Goranboy district.

In the carnage, 24 Azerbaijani civilians were mercilessly killed, including six minors, as well as a 6-month-old infant and a 93-year-old elderly woman. The bodies of some of the massacred people, most of whom were children, women and the elderly, were burned. As a result of the killing, three children lost both parents.

Balligaya massacre is one of the series of mass massacres committed by the Armenian armed forces in Garadaghli village of Khojavand, Khojaly city, and Aghdaban village of the Kalbajar district to destroy the Azerbaijani population of Karabakh.

After the occupation of Lachin in the summer of 1992, the local Azerbaijani population displaced from their homes was forced to settle in different regions of Azerbaijan. Six families settled in Balligaya, where they had close relatives. The IDPs from the Lachin district, who settled in tents in Balligaya village in August, chose this village with the purpose of continuing animal husbandry.

But, they were brutally murdered on August 28. Thus, around 5 a.m., a diversionary group of 10-12 members of the Armenian army entered the area and attacked innocent civilians. As a result, 24 civilians who had no weapons to defend themselves were mercilessly killed, and nine people were seriously injured. All those killed and seriously injured were civilians engaged in animal husbandry, herders and their family members.

The tragedies in Balligaya, Garadaghli, Khojaly and Aghdaban once again show that Armenians have been hostile to peaceful Azerbaijanis throughout history. These massacres committed by them against Azerbaijanis are imprinted in Azerbaijani history.

All massacres committed by Armenians against Azerbaijanis were avenged one by one during the counter-offensive operations carried out by the Azerbaijani army starting from September 27, 2020. Under the leadership of the victorious Supreme Commander, President Ilham Aliyev, the brave Azerbaijan Army destroyed the enemy on the battlefield and achieved victory. However, the Armenian armed forces continued their war crimes against the civilian population even during the days of the Second Karabakh War. The enemy, who could not stand up to the Azerbaijani soldiers, ran away from the battlefield and bombarded the cities and districts close to the front line with ballistic missiles. Many innocent people, including minors and women, lost their lives in the bombing of Azerbaijan’s Ganja and Barda cities by the enemy.

All this is the main principle of the ideology of Armenians - Armenian armed groups hostile to peaceful Azerbaijanis.
