Ombudsman's office appeals to General Prosecutor's office for unbiased investigation of pupil's suicide - EXCLUSIVE

"Elina Hajiyeva's suicide shook all of us. As is known, from the very first day when this case occurred, the state structures, the law enforcement bodies have been carrying out serious investigation keeping this issue in the spotlight," Azerbaijani Ombudsperson Elmira Suleymanova said in an exclusive statement to Report.

Elmira Suleymanova said that taking this case under her control in line with the Constitutional Law, she appealed to the Prosecutor General's office for the full, comprehensive and unbiased investigation, identification of those responsible and bringing them to account.

"Unverified information and assumptions spread by the internet resources and various social networks without respect to the state of Elina's family members, public sensitivity and especially children's psychological state, cause confusion, psychological tension and violation of the law. Therefore, each of us should treat this issue with sensitivity and wait until the authorized state bodies unveil the results of the investigation and make public statements. It is necessary to intensify the activity of child psychologists, expand the work to increase the legal awareness and to strengthen the child protection system to prevent the repetition of such cases."
