FETO still exists in Türkiye and Azerbaijan, Turkish expert on security, military psychology and intelligence Coskun Basbug told Report’s Ankara bureau.
He said that although FETO was founded in Türkiye, it is wrong to attribute the group to this country: “This organization, created by the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), is very different from other terrorist groups. They know how to hide and disguise themselves in order to engage in criminal activities. The main goal was to interfere in the Turkic geography, where the US could not penetrate before. Under the guise of English language teachers, they introduced CIA agents on the ground, and they, under the guise of propaganda of the Turkish language and Islam, conducted Western propaganda and programmed people’s minds.”
According to Coskun Basbug, though Türkiye thwarted this thoughtful, cunning project, the danger still remains.
The military expert noted that the president of Türkiye in all the countries he visited noted the need to combat FETO: “Some countries are taking active measures to combat FETO, while others haven’t realized the seriousness of the threat and suffered great damage. Azerbaijan has taken very decisive steps in this direction. But, for example, Kyrgyzstan still has a lot to do.”
According to Basbug, this year six FETO members were detained by the National Intelligence Organization in Kosovo and taken to Türkiye: “After that, confusion arose in the country. The minister of internal affairs and the head of the country’s intelligence organization were removed from their posts because they weren’t aware of processes that were happening in the country. So, FETO is still very effective in this country. It still exists in Türkiye and Azerbaijan. The new arrests in Azerbaijan are an example of this.”
