EU Commissioner for Energy and Housing Dan Jørgensen plans to visit Azerbaijan in April, an EU official representative told Report.
"Commissioner Jørgensen is planning to co-convene and participate in the Ministerial Meeting of the 11th Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council and 3rd Green Energy Advisory Council in Baku on April 4, 2025," the representative noted.
The 10th Ministerial Meeting of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council and the 2nd Ministerial Meeting of the Green Energy Advisory Council were held in Baku on March 1, 2024.
Ministerial meetings within the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council have been held since February 2015.
The Southern Gas Corridor (SGC) was created to export Azerbaijani gas to Europe. The main components of SGC are: Shah Deniz Stage 2 project, the expanded South Caucasus Pipeline from Baku through Georgia to the Turkish border, the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) from Türkiye's eastern to western borders, and the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) connecting Greece, Albania, and southern Italy.
The SGC Advisory Council was established in 2015 on Azerbaijan's initiative to coordinate efforts for the creation and commissioning of this corridor. In previous years, Azerbaijan implemented important energy projects jointly with neighboring countries - Georgia and Türkiye. However, the circle of countries and companies involved in this project needed greater coordination for maximum efficiency. The initiative was supported by the European Commission.
