Foreign minister outlines regional political dialogue priority for Qatar's foreign policy

"First, I thank you for the hospitality shown to us on the brotherly land of Azerbaijan. Of course, we are visiting Azerbaijan today and there is a meeting of the Intergovernmental Joint Commission. I am honored to meet with President Ilham Aliyev this morning. I conveyed the greetings of the Qatari emir to the president," Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani told a joint press conference with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, Report informs.

"Taking this opportunity, on behalf of the State of Qatar, I congratulate the Republic of Azerbaijan and its people on the occasion of the October 18 - Day of Restoration of Independence. On this significant day, I wish your country prosperity and everlasting sovereignty. Qatar attaches great importance to the expansion of fraternal relations between Qatar and Azerbaijan. I want to underline that Qatar is interested in developing relations with Azerbaijan in political, economic, trade, and other sectors. The diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in 1994," Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani said.

“I would like to underscore the meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic, Trade and Scientific Cooperation between the State of Qatar and the Republic of Azerbaijan underway in Baku today. In 2016, the two countries signed an agreement on the development of fraternal relations.

Referring to our meeting with the Azerbaijani foreign minister today, I would like to note that at the meeting, we discussed cooperation in many sectors. We also touched upon the achievements between the two countries in the political, diplomatic, and economic spheres and exchanged views. In addition, we stressed the importance of peace and stability for the region. We also touched upon the current events in the region. Political dialogue in the region is a priority in Qatar's foreign policy.

In conclusion, I once again thank the Azerbaijani foreign minister for the reception and warm welcome," he added.
