Deputy FM: Azerbaijan constantly improves its legislation and brings in line with international standards

Baku. 20 October. REPORT.AZ/ Azerbaijan is committed to principles of universality and interdependence of human rights and fundamental freedoms.

Report informs, Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov said ath the 118th session of the UN Human Rights Committee, Geneva.

According to him, taking into account the international commitments, the country's legislation is constantly being improved and brought into line with international standards, including protection of civil and political rights. Kh. Khalafov said that changes made to the constitution of the country after referendum provide guarantees for the protection and respect of human dignity, inadmissibility of abuse of rights, the right to conscientious treatment by government agencies, the right of everyone to the peaceful consideration of appeals, etc.: "These changes aimed at further strengthening protection of constitutional rights and freedoms of people, formation of efficient and flexible administration and effectiveness of economic reforms."

In his speech, Kh. Khalafov also informed about reforms carried out in the judicial system of Azerbaijan in order to simplify appeals of citizens to the courts, as well as penalties for judges who have committed mistakes in their work.

Speaking on the fight against corruption, Kh. Khalafov said that investigation has completed against over 100 officers on basis of appeals to the Office for Combating Corruption under the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Commenting on report of the Human Rights Committee on pressure and violence against media workers and local human rights organizations, Kh. Khalafov noted that the report is "more likely a result of misinformation and does not reflect reality."

"Azerbaijan continues its efforts to implement the concept of sustainable development, strengthening the rule of law", he concluded.
