Council of Europe Action Plan for Azerbaijan 2022-2025 presented in Baku

The Council of Europe Action Plan for Azerbaijan 2022-2025 has been presented in Baku, Report informs.

The event is attended by Secretary-General of the Council of Europe Marija Pejčinović Burić, Minister of Justice of Azerbaijan Fikrat Mammadov.

The action plan was presented by the head of the Council of Europe office in Baku, Zoltán Hernyes.

Under this Action Plan with a budget of 9.6 million euros, the Council of Europe and the Azerbaijani authorities have agreed to continue to carry forward jointly, through cooperation programs, reforms to improve the implementation of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) case law and judgments at the national level, improve the criminal justice system and ensure fundamental freedoms, further build the capacities of the media, enhance data protection, promote gender equality and combat violence against women and domestic violence, ensure social rights, further increase the effectiveness, accountability and transparency of the judiciary, including constitutional justice, step up the fight against corruption and money laundering, combat cybercrime and contribute to environmental protection.

The parties have also identified new areas for cooperation, namely aligning national anti-discrimination legislation and practice with Council of Europe standards, ensuring freedom of expression, artificial intelligence, combating drug abuse and illicit trafficking and combating trafficking in human beings in line with national legislation and international obligations of Azerbaijan.

Discussions have been held with the Azerbaijani authorities on possible specific post-conflict issues.
