Mahir Mammadov: Gurbanov's appointment as Azerbaijan's national team manager the easiest solution - INTERVIEW

Baku. 1 November. REPORT.AZ/ Report News Agency presents an interview with the member of the AFFA Executive Committee Mahir Mammadov:

-- How do you evaluate the performance of Azerbaijan's Qarabag in the 4th round of the Champions League group stage with Atlético in Spain?

- What can I say? Qarabag is ambassador of Azerbaijan at the super-high level. This team always delights us. It demonstrates a very nice, European-level game. It is a great pleasure to have such a club.

- Qarabag has won the 2nd point in the group stage. How do you think will the Azerbaijani team qualify for the 1/16 finals of the Europa League, at least 3^rd in group?

- It is difficult to give an accurate idea. Getting out of the group depends on many factors. I can say that Qarabag surprises and delights me with a very high level of game.

- Which factors have made it possible for Qarabag to reach the current level in the absence of strong competition in Azerbaijan Premier League?

- Because of club leadership, head coach and proper selection. These are not a few things.

- After these achievements, there were major opinions about the importance of appointing Gurban Gurbanov as the head coach of the Azerbaijani national team…

-There is a certain truth in this logic and in these words. This is the easiest way to solve the issue. I think it is very important to take it seriously.

- Will another candidate be discussed at AFFA Executive Committee meeting to be held on November 3?

- No, I do not know about anyone else.

- In case of Gurban Gurbanov it is about the difficulty of working both in the club and in the team. What proposal do you offer?

- Once again, this is the easiest, most direct decision. In my opinion, the consequences of such a decision should be taken seriously.

- Would you like Gurbanov to work both at the club and in the team?

- It is another question whether I want it or not. There is such practice in the world. You just have to seriously examine the statistics, causes and consequences of such practices and think seriously.

- Do you think decision may be taken regarding appointment of the head coach of the national team of Azerbaijan on November 3 or will the issue be extended till year end?

- I have no clue.
