Kyrgyz banks have stopped transactions with Russian cards that are part of the Mir payment system, Report informs.
According to information, starting April 3, Mir cardholders experienced a service interruption affecting card-to-card and other transfer operations.
In February 2024, the department responsible for the control of foreign assets of the US Ministry of Finance imposed sanctions against the National Payment Cards System OJSC, the card operator of the Mir payment system. In order to minimize the risk of secondary sanctions, the Kyrgyz side was forced to refuse operations with Mir cards on the territory of the republic.
The National Bank of Kyrgyzstan stated that it has no authority to intervene in the work of commercial banks regarding such issues and assured that the banks have the right to independently decide which payment system they will work with.
