US envoy: Projects implemented by Azerbaijan increase energy security in Europe

The US and Azerbaijan will continue cooperation in the energy sector, focusing on renewable energy sources, US Ambassador to Azerbaijan Mark Libby told reporters, Report informs.

“As an American, I am proud of what we have done together with Azerbaijan through projects such as the Southern Gas Corridor (SGC) and Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan. These are projects that have increased energy security in Europe and contributed to increased prosperity and security here in Azerbaijan,” noted the ambassador.

The US diplomat added that Baku and Washington have a good history of cooperation in the energy sector: “And now we are focused on renewable energy sources.”

According to the US Ambassador, the country has great potential for the development of this area.

"Europe and other countries try to make the transition to a green economy. Until the green transition is completed and COP targets for carbon neutrality are achieved, Europe and other partners are also trying to get rid of their dependence on Russian gas, and Azerbaijan offers a source that represents diversity and greater security."

In his opinion, to unlock the full potential of renewable energy sources, Azerbaijan will have to carry out work to expand the existing infrastructure.

“As for the development of technologies, feasibility studies and investment opportunities in the field of hydrogen, wind and other types of environmentally friendly and renewable energy, there are prospects here. This requires investment. And this requires some planning,” the diplomat noted.
