Japan seeks balanced outcomes from COP29 and CMA6

At the open plenary session convened by the COP29 President, Asao Keiichiro, Japan's Minister of the Environment, emphasized the need for determining the nature of financing and various other aspects before finalizing the New Collective Quantitative Goal (NCQG).

Report informs that, according to Keiichiro, this preparatory work is essential for making decisions on the quantitative part of the issue, as developed countries consider it important for the NCQG to cover the same wide range of sources, instruments, and channels used in developing the $100 billion goal.

"We hope for a balanced package of outcomes from COP29 and the 6th meeting of the parties to the Paris Agreement (CMA6) on the issue of just transition," stated Keiichiro. He also highlighted Japan's belief that the discussions in Baku should prioritize the implementation of the UAE-Belen program.

Furthermore, Keiichiro called for further clarification of global and national indicators, suggesting that this issue should be discussed at the expert level. "Regarding Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, we aim to reach a clear decision at CMA6 for the full operationalization of this article. Japan will make every effort for the success of COP29," he affirmed.
