1st Baku International Festival of Traditional Crafts-“Folk art” opens in Baku

The opening ceremony of the 1st Baku International Festival of Traditional Crafts-“Folk art” was held in Baku. Report informs, the event was attended by Minister of Culture Abulfas Garayev, Head of the Office of the State Historical and Architectural Reserve "Icherisheher" Asker Alekperov, Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Office Sheikh-ul-Islam Haji Allahshukur Pashazade, Turkish Ambassador to Azerbaijan Erkan Ozoral, government officials and representatives of more than 35 Muslim countries.

Asker Alekperov, Head of the Office of the State Historical and Architectural Reserve "Icherisheher" noted that this year marks the 650th anniversary of Nasimi and the festival was organized as part of the celebration of the Nasimi Festival. Over 50 artisans from 30 Muslim countries participate in the festival.

"We believe that this festival will play a big role in strengthening ties between Islamic countries," Alekperov said.

Culture Minister Abulfas Garayev noted that many festivals are held in Baku: “Our people are faithful to their traditions".

The festival runs until October 4.
