Climate change and reduced precipitation are among the main reasons for declining yields on rain-fed lands, Minister of Agriculture Majnun Mammadov told journalists while commenting on the reduction in rain-fed cultivation areas.
According to Report, he noted that yields on rain-fed lands primarily depend on precipitation levels.
"The decrease in average yields in rain-fed territories is mainly due to reduced precipitation. Another objective reason is the continuous cultivation of the same crop on these lands year after year. The lack of crop rotation and not allowing the land to rest negatively affects soil quality and reduces yields. Starting this year, certain steps will be taken to encourage land rest periods," the minister noted.
