US warns Iran against steps that may worsen crisis in Middle East

The US warns Iran against actions that may escalate the current crisis in the Middle East, said US Undersecretary of State for Civilian Security, Democracy and Human Rights Uzra Zeya, speaking at an open debate in the UN Security Council on the situation in the Middle East, Report informs.

The US has repeatedly warned Iran and its proxies not to take advantage of the moment to launch attacks that threaten to provoke a wider conflict, she noted.

The US condemns Iran’s attacks on areas located in Iraq and Pakistan, Zeya said. At the same time, she condemned on behalf of Washington the steps of the Yemeni rebel movement Ansar Allah (Houthis), including their shelling of ships in the Red Sea.

The US will continue to take appropriate defensive actions consistent with international law to protect its personnel and interests in the region, the diplomat added.
