The Russian Embassy in Sweden has sent a note to the Kingdom’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in connection with an act of vandalism against a stone erected in memory of Soviet soldiers in the Karlsvik district of the Luleå municipality in northern Sweden, Report informs referring to TASS.

“A memorial stone to Soviet military personnel, installed in 2015 by the embassy together with the municipal authorities on the site of the transit camp through which former Soviet prisoners of war returned from Norway to the USSR...,” the message says. “For our part, we sent a corresponding note to the Swedish Foreign Ministry. They demanded that the monument be restored to its original appearance, that this outrageous incident be investigated, that those responsible be found and punished, and that the safety of Russian and Soviet military graves be ensured in Sweden.”

The embassy did not provide details of the incident, but reminded that for such actions the kingdom’s criminal code provides for compensation for damage, payment of a fine or imprisonment for a period of six months to four years. Presumably, the monument was doused with paint.
