Over 1,100 Georgian citizens appled for asylum in Germany in past three months

The number of Georgian citizens seeking asylum in Germany has increased.

The German Federal Office for Migration and Refugees told Report’s European bureau that a total of 1,147 Georgian citizens applied for refugee status in the past three months.

Thus, the federal department received 345 appeals from Georgian citizens in July, 358 in August, and 444 in September.

The German Interior Ministry believes that many Georgians abuse the visa-free regime as asylum seekers and have the opportunity to stay in Germany for months, sometimes years.
