More than 7,400 people are AIDS carriers in Georgia

Tbilisi. 4 February. REPORT.AZ/ New cases of AIDS infection have been registered in Georgia.

Local Bureau of Report News Agency informs that the due report was provided by the Georgia's Infection Pathology, AIDS and Clinical Immunology Scientific-Practical Center. 

In general, 7,453 AIDS cases have been registered in Georgia. 5,578 of the infected people are men, while 1,875 are women. The vast majority of the patients are people aged 29-39. AIDS has developed in 3,969 patients and killed 1,523 people.

As of December 31, 4,597 people are being treated for AIDS in the country, 43 of them are children.

39.9% of HIV infection cases were spread by drugs, while 57.6% via sexual intercourse.

Capital Tbilisi accounts for most cases of AIDS infection. There are 2,726 AIDS-carriers in the city, 87 of them are foreigners.

385 people have been infected in the Kvemo Kartli region, where Azerbaijanis live compactly.

In recent years, new consistent increase in AIDS infection has been observed in the neighboring country. Thus, 717 incidence cases were observed in 2015, while 719 in 2016, 631 in 2017 and 672 in 2018.
