Medvedchuk offers Russia to exchange him for defenders of Mariupol

Viktor Medvedchuk has appealed to the presidents of Ukraine and the Russian Federation with a request to exchange him for the defenders and residents of Mariupol, Report informs, citing the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU).

“Ukrainian Deputy Viktor Medvedchuk, detained by the SSU, appealed to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin with a proposal to exchange him for the defenders and residents of Mariupol. He noted that they are in a besieged city, having no safe way out through humanitarian corridors,” the SSU said.

According to him, the aggression of the Russian Armed Forces caused one of the greatest humanitarian disasters in Mariupol:

“They bomb the civilian population, block the delivery of humanitarian aid to the city, forcibly take Ukrainians to the territory of Russia and deliberately destroy the city.”

At the same time, according to various estimates, about 120,000 civilians remain in the blocked Mariupol, and the soldiers of the Azov Regiment and the 36th Marine Brigade continue to defend the city, the SSU says.

The SSU detained Medvedchuk on April 12.
