Iran’s vice president for strategic issues Mohammad Javad Zarif has tendered his resignation after Economy and Finance Minister Abdolnaser Hemmati lost a vote of confidence, the Fars agency noted, citing sources, Report informs via TASS.
According to the sources, Zarif asked resignation after Iran’s parliament voted to remove Hemmati from office. However, President Massoud Pezeshkian has not yet accepted Zarif’s resignation.
This is the second time since the formation of Iran's current government that Zarif is seeking to step down. He first submitted his resignation to the president on August 11, after only 10 days in office. He then said he was "dissatisfied with his own performance" as head of the advisory council, which was established after Pezeshkian's election as prime minister and was responsible for selecting candidates for the new cabinet. The president did not accept his resignation at the time.
