Iran, US to resume nuclear talks in Oman

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei announced that the next round of nuclear negotiations between Iran and the US is scheduled to take place on June 15, in Oman, Report informs referring to The Khaama Press.

This comes after the US President Donald Trump had earlier claimed that the talks would occur on June 12, creating some confusion about the actual date.

Trump had reiterated that the US cannot accept Iran’s uranium enrichment activities. “Iran seeks enrichment, but we can’t allow it,” he said. “They are not ready for a deal, and the alternative to an agreement would be very dangerous.”

He added that talks would be held on Thursday, and the US would wait until then for Iran’s position.

Iran, however, announced on Monday that it will soon respond with a counter-proposal, calling the latest US offer “unacceptable.” According to Baghaei, the American plan does not reflect the outcome of previous negotiation rounds and fails to address Iran’s core concerns. He said Iran’s forthcoming proposal, to be delivered via Oman, will be “reasonable, logical, and balanced.”

Baghaei emphasized that any agreement must ensure Iran’s real economic benefits. “We need to be assured that Iran will economically benefit from sanctions relief, including normalization of banking and trade relations,” he said.
