Georgia hopes to receive Indian COVID vaccines

With a high degree of probability, Georgia will acquire an Indian coronavirus vaccine in the near future, Report's Georgian Service informs, citing Paata Imnadze, deputy head of the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health of Georgia.

According to the infectious disease specialist, vaccine negotiations are ongoing with China and the Western countries.

"India is one of the largest vaccine manufacturers, and there is a great chance to purchase the drug from this country. Unfortunately, European countries cannot get enough vaccines to share with us," Imnadze said.

The specialist noted the vaccine shortage on the world market and said that manufacturers were unable to expand production to meet the demand.

Georgia is also negotiating to import the American Novavax jab to Georgia. Tengiz Tsertsvadze, the Tbilisi Infectious Diseases Institute director, said that Georgia will stock up on 1 million doses of this vaccine in June 2021.
