Chairman of Georgian opposition party may be released from detention

The General Prosecutor's Office of Georgia is preparing to appeal to the Tbilisi City Court with a claim to replace the preventive measure in the form of detention with bail in relation to Chairman of the United National Movement (UNM) opposition party Nika Melia, Report's Georgian service informs.

Prosecutor Amiran Guluashvili said at a briefing that the defense side must fulfill the conditions of bail established by the court decision of Nov. 3, 2020.

The arrest of the UNM party chairman on Feb. 23 triggered a political crisis in Georgia.

The amount of bail to be paid by Melia is GEL 70,000. ($21,041).
