Borrell: EU’s strategic compass - response to situation around Ukraine

The Strategic Compass of the European Union is part of the response to the situation around Ukraine.

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said this in a video clip posted on his Twitter page, Report informs.

"We are going to have a grand meeting with defense ministers to approve - I hope - the Strategic Compass, which is not the answer to the war in Ukraine, but is part of the answer," he said in the video.

Borrell also noted that EU member states must build up their military capabilities and do so in a coordinated manner.

"We have worked on the Strategic Compass for two years. Its purpose is to guide the development of the EU security and defence agenda for the next decade to deal with the full range of threats and challenges we face," the video says.
