US executes three inmates in one day for first time in 16 years

Authorities in three US states - Tennessee, Alabama and Oklahoma - carried out death sentences against three inmates on August 13, Report informs, citing the Associated Press.

According to AP, the last time three executions were carried out in the United States in a single day was 16 years ago.

Jeremy Williams was executed in Alabama after being convicted of raping and killing a five-year-old girl in 2021.

In Oklahoma, the death sentence was carried out against Carlos Cuesta-Rodriguez, who was convicted of killing his girlfriend, Olympia Fisher, in 2003.

In Tennessee, Anthony Darrell Hines was executed after being convicted of killing a motel maid in 1985.

According to AP, the three executions in one day reflect an increase in the number of death sentences being carried out in the United States.

In 2025, 47 people were executed in the country, the highest number since 2009.
