Airports in the Syrian cities of Latakia and Al-Qamishli will remain closed for receiving and dispatching aircraft until January 21, the control service of the Damascus flight information area told TASS, Report informs.
"All flights from Latakia and Al-Qamishli airports have been stopped until 15:00 Coordinated Universal Time (GMT+3) on January 21," the source said.
The source recalled that the ban at these airports was introduced immediately after the change of power in Syria on December 8, 2024. It was supposed to be in effect until the evening of January 6.
Referring to the technical condition of Latakia airport, a representative of the dispatch service explained that the radio frequency of the runway's far marker beacon had been temporarily changed there. "In addition, until the third decade of March, five airport taxiways can only be used during daytime hours, four more are ready for operation around the clock," the agency's interlocutor explained.
Earlier, the head of the Syrian Civil Aviation and Air Transport Authority, Ashkhad al-Sleibi, said that the Damascus airport would begin receiving and dispatching international flights on January 7.
Currently, the capital's air harbor, as well as the Aleppo airport, can only operate with a special permit from the Civil Aviation Authority.
