Taiwan parliament speaker meets Pelosi

Taiwan’s top legislative leader, You Si-kun, is in Washington this week.

According to Report, You Si-kun met with former Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi during his visit to Washington, Report informs via TASS.

According to the information, the meeting took place on May 17 on Capitol Hill. You Si-kun was accompanied by the founder of the international Christian human rights organization China Aid, pastor Bob Fu. After the meeting, he tweeted a photo of handing Pelosi a scroll that read "Democracy must win."

Earlier this week, during his visit to the United States, You Si-kun met with members of the House of Representatives' China Select Committee. According to Taiwan's Central News Agency, the two sides discussed deepening bilateral economic ties and security cooperation.

Taiwan has been governed by its own administration since 1949, but Beijing considers it an integral part of a unified country. Washington remains Taipei's main supplier of weapons and military equipment.
