NATO rhetoric about sending military contingents to Ukraine brings the risk of World War III closer, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto told TASS in an interview, Report informs.
"In such a critical situation it is not only the actions but words that have huge significance. So when it comes to statements about the possibility of sending troops to Ukraine on behalf of certain NATO member states, [it] is really dangerous, because we do not want to see the threat, the horrifying risk of an outbreak of World War coming closer," Szijjarto said.
According to him, Budapest insists on an immediate ceasefire and the start of talks between Russia and Ukraine.
"You know, our position is really clear when it comes to the war in our neighborhood. We do believe that Russia cannot be defeated in this war," he noted. According to Szijjarto, the West keeps supplying weapons to Kyiv so Russia does not "win big." "So, this means that there have to be negotiations by any case. So, if negotiations have to take place, our question is - why not sooner than later," Szijjarto said.
