Survey: More than 70% of French support Yellow Vests movement

Baku. 3 December. REPORT.AZ/ The overwhelming majority of the French - 72% - said they support the Yellow Vests movement, which opposes the rise in prices for automobile fuel. Report informs citing the TASS that this is evidenced by the results of a survey conducted by the sociological service Harris Interactive, prepared for the RTL TV channel, released today.

Sociologists note that "the support of the movement by the population is still high, despite the fact that the mass protests of December 1 again sparked a wave of violence in many French cities, especially in Paris."

According to researchers, the society "understands and supports the movement," but opposes the violence caused by protests. According to the survey, 85% of respondents condemned the unrest accompanying the demonstrations.

The survey was conducted on the Internet on December 2 involving 1016 people over 18 years old. Mass protests against rising prices for automotive fuel have been held in France since mid-November. The participants of the demonstrations wear yellow reflective vests for motorists, in connection with which the movement was called "yellow vests". Last Saturday, demonstrations growing into riots took place again in Paris and other major cities. There have been numerous cases of robbery and vandalism.
