The Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare of Japan found infection with a previously unknown coronavirus strain in a man who arrived in the country from the Philippines in February, Report informs, citing TASS.

According to him, this strain is 'just as dangerous' as previously identified mutated samples from the UK, South Africa, and Brazil.

Currently, Japan has a de facto ban on issuing new visas to citizens of all countries and regions of the world due to discovering a new strain of coronavirus in the UK. This ban came into force on December 28 last year. Initially, this measure was supposed to be valid until the end of January, but then it was extended along with the emergency regime until March 21.
