Poland weighing closure of another checkpoint on Belarus border

Polish authorities are considering the possibility of closing the last two existing crossings on the border with Belarus, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said on TVN24, Report informs.

“Due to the actions of Belarus, we are considering the closure of all border crossings. For now, we are studying the question of whether this will affect the Polish economy,” the minister said.

A decree on the creation of a buffer zone on the Poland-Belarusborder has recently come into force.

There are six checkpoints on the Polish-Belarusian border. On the initiative of the Polish side, four are not functioning, and on the fifth, restrictions have been introduced for Belarusian trucks. At the moment, the movement of passenger vehicles through the Terespol - Brest checkpoint is possible in normal mode. Warsaw regularly accuses Minsk of organizing an influx of migrants from the Middle East and Africa to the border with Poland. According to the Polish border service, since the beginning of the year, more than 19,000 attempts to illegally enter the country from Belarus have been registered.
