The US Navy is inferior to China in numbers, and the Pentagon is trying to catch up with unmanned ships, Ken Calvert, the US representative for California's 41st congressional district, said at a forum organized by the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation in California, Report informs.

"China is close to having 400 ships [in the navy], we have about 290. That's one of the reasons we turned to the unmanned ships. They are much cheaper. They give more flexibility, but we still have to build more ships. Our lag is depressing," he said.

“We have problems with the production base, we have problems with supply chains, we have a shortage of labor. This does not allow us to achieve goals, including in the field of submarines,” the congressman stated.
